Marula (Sclerocarya birrea) is a species of medium tree height in the nephroid family. The plant occurs in southern and western Africa. A tree with a single tree with a wide branched crown. Up to 18 m high.

The fruits are the size of a golf ball, yellow, mango-like construction – they have thick skin, juicy flesh and a very hard, large stone. The fruit has acidic flavor. Vitamin C content is eight times higher than in oranges.

The fruit is harvested from the ground, depending on the geographical location from late January to early March. They have a nice and very strong aroma like turpentine mixed with lemon and alcohol. It's this nice smell that attracts animals from a long distance, mostly elephants that shake fruit with trumpets.

Maruli fruits are used for the production of the liqueur "Amarula" available in Poland
